What?
Point and shoot camera with flash and color gels.
When?
From +/- 2003.
How?
One of the first lomographic cameras I bought.
Well?
I have mixed feeling about this camera. I bought the colorsplash years ago, after seeing some wonderful shots on lomography.com. I learned quickly enough that having a cool camera doesn’t mean your pictures will turn out cool as well. I know, that’s pretty obvious, but even obvious truths sometimes need to be experienced for them to really stick. That whole colored flash thing? Well, it just isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Not in my hands anyway. I tend to get pictures that are just washed over in a color. Sometimes fun and cool, most of the time just meh.
Plus, what’s really annoying to me, is that it doesn’t take rechargable batteries. Somehow, those a a tiny bit too wide to fit in the colorsplash. Several times, I’ve wanted to take this camera, simply because it’s light and had a flash, only to realize once again I only have rechargable batteries, which won’t fit.
Still, I’ve taken some pretty good pictures with it, even without colored flash. It’s light and small, so it fits easily into any bag or pack. This will never be my favoutite camera, but it has it’s uses.
